- Thomson, late 1940s.Knox brothers and Strom Thurmond gather for a photograph in front of one of the pre-fabricated homes built by the Knox Brothers Lumber Company. The company located on Railroad Street was established in 1932 by Wyck A. and Peter S. Knox Junior. Lawrence and Robert E. Knox were also associated with the company. It was one of the first in the area to build prefabricated homes. An assembly line process was used to manufacture the pieces of the home. The company was later purchased by National Homes. Left to right: Lawrence and Peter S. Knox, Junior; Strom Thurmond, who at this time was probably the governor of South Carolina; Wyck A. and Robert E. Knox.
