- Hall County? March 1, 1950. Crowd gathers for ceremonies to break ground for Buford Dam. Work on the dam, which is located in Forsyth County, was completed in 1957 by the U.S. Corps of Engineers. The dam created Lake Lanier which flows into both Forsyth and Hall Counties.
