- Hall County? March 1, 1950. Dignitaries participate in ceremonies to break ground for Buford Dam. Work on the dam, which is located in Forsyth County, was completed by the U.S. Corps of Engineers in 1957. The dam created Lake Lanier which flows into both Forsyth and Hall counties. Gov Herman E. Talmadge at the far left was one of those on hand for the occasion.
