- Gainesville, 1944. Aerial view looking southwest toward the business district around the public square. This photograph shows how this part of the city looked after rebuilding from the destruction caused by the tornado which struck the city on April 6, 1936. Gainesville High School is seen at the top center of the photograph. The Hall County Courthouse located on Roosevelt Square is seen at the bottom. It was built in 1936 after the previous one had been destroyed in the tornado mentioned above.
