- Gainesville, 1944. Aerial view of the downtown area which shows the rebuilding that had taken place following the tornado which struck the city April 6, 1936. Over 100 people were killed, hundreds were injured, and the property damage was in the millions. The Hall County Courthouse is in the center of the photograph. The public square surrounded by the business district is to the right of the courthouse.
