- Gainesville. Steam locomotive No. 209 on the Gainesville Midland Railroad. It is reported that this locomotive was built for the Czar of Russia until the Russian Revolution in 1917 cancelled the order. In 1904 the Gainesville, Jefferson and Southern Railroad became the Gainesville Midland Railroad. No. 209 was among those steam locomotives which made their final journey from Gainesville to Jefferson, Athens, and Winder before being retired from service on Sept. 19, 1959. No. 209 was then given to the city.
