- Gainesville, Sept. 19, 1959. Two unidentified men polish the bell on steam locomotive No. 203 on the Gainesville Midland Railroad. On this date the steam locomotives made their final journey from Gainesville to Jefferson, Athens, and Winder before being retired from service. In 1904 the Gainesville, Jefferson and Southern Railroad became the Gainesville Midland Railroad.
