- Gainesville, early 1900s. Young women at Brenau College participate in May Day festivities as others watch. They are wearing pennants which indicate the state or country from which they come. The school began in 1878 as the Georgia Baptist Female Seminary. In 1900 the name was changed to Brenau College.
