- Hall County? March 1, 1950. Crowd gathers for ceremonies to break ground for Buford Dam. The dam which is located in Forsyth County was completed by the U.S. Corps of Engineers in 1957. It created Lake Lanier which flows into both Forsyth and Hall counties.
