- Calhoun, 1977. Bert Lance and his wife, LaBelle David Lance, pose for a photograph in their home. Mr. Lance has served as Calhoun First National Bank president, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation, National Bank of Georgia president, Director of the Office of Management and Budget under the administration of President Jimmy Carter. Both the Lances are active in civic and church affairs.
2003/06/25: According to Our Georgia History, located on-line at http://www.ourgeorgiahistory.com/chronpop/2147, Bert Lance was born June 3, 1931 in Gainesville, Georgia. On July 16, 1977, Lance testified "before a Senate sub-committee, answering questions about activities of that bank while he was Chairman of the Board. Questions also arose about the involvement of Calhoun National Bank (Calhoun, Georgia). These questions revolved around "sweetheart" loans made to Lance." On September 21, 1977 Lance, serving as Office of Management and Budget Director, "resigns his position because of allegations of unethical behavior within the National Bank of Georgia." - External Identifiers:
