- Description:
- Gordon County. Oothcaloga Moravian Mission located on Belwood Road near Belwood School south of Calhoun. It was operated 1822-1833 by the Moravian Church to provide education and religious instruction to the Cherokee Indians. John Gambold came from Spring Place in Murray County to establish the mission. This structure had been built in 1821 by John Crutchfield and was sold in 1822 to the Moravians. By 1833 white families occupied the house as a result of the Cherokee Land Lottery of 1832.
