2003/06/24: The Hofwyl plantation is now known as Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation. The same family lived in the house from 1804 to 1973. The plantation grew rice up until a little after the Civil War, when a lack of a cheap labor source made it difficult to cultivate rice. The family then started a dairy, which supplied residents in both Glynn and McIntosh counties with milk. The Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation is a Georgia State Historic Site. - External Identifiers:
