2003/06/24: The Hofwyl plantation is now known as Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation. The same family lived in the house from 1804 to 1973. The plantation grew rice up until the Civil War. Afterwards, because there was no cheap source of labor available to support rice cultivation, the family started a dairy, which supplied residents in both Glynn and McIntosh counties with milk. The Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation is a Georgia State Historic Site. - External Identifiers:
