- Atlanta, Dec. 7, 1946. Victims of the Winecoff Hotel fire located at the corner of Peachtree and Ellis Streets. This was the worst fire in Atlanta's history resulting in the loss of 119 lives and over 100 people injured. The hotel before the fire had been classified as fireproof.
