- Atlanta, Feb. 19, 1974. Governor Jimmy Carter gets ready to sign House Resolution 573 which would designate 12 historical plates commissioned by the Transylvania Club of Sandersville to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the founding of Georgia as the official Georgia Historical Plates. The plates were designed by Louise Irwin (center) and manufactured by the Wedgewood Company. Secretary of State, Ben W. Fortson, Jr. at far left.
2003/06/02: The Transylvania Club was founded in 1908 and worked to establish a library. One member, Louise Irwin, in 1932 designed a collection of 12 Georgia Historic Plates for the 1933 Georgia Bicentiennel. In 1974, Georgia General Assembly's resolution number 573 made these plates the official plates for the State of Georgia. - External Identifiers:
