- Near Lavonia, early 1920s. Knox's Bridge was built in 1854 by Samuel Knox. The architect was a Colonel Bowman of Elberton, Ga. This covered bridge which spans the Tugaloo River was constructed using slave labor. The bridge was destroyed by fire in the 1950s. The bridge was an example of the town lattice design.
