- Description:
- Dougherty County, ca. 1903-1910. Workers with the Red Cypress Lumber Company in process of loading huge logs so that they could be transported out of the forest to the company plant by rail. The piece of machinery in the left background may be a portable sawmill used in the cutting process. The type of railroad track seen in the middle of the photograph may be what is known as a tram road. Rails were laid for the sole purpose of access into a forest in order to cut and transport timber. Workers would pick up the tram tracks as they departed the area. See: dgh075 for background data on this company.
