- June 1949 or 1950. Nurse Mary Hines Freeman (supervisor of Red Cross instruction in DeKalb County) and Carol Burt of the Decatur Girls High School. They were Delegates to a Red Cross convention in New York City. It was the first time either had flown. Carol was one of two delegates from DeKalb Chapter of Junior Red Cross. Convention was June 25-27 of either 1949 or 1950.
