2003/01/27: According to Vanishing DeKalb, by the DeKalb Historical Society, (pg. 151) the college "was founded as Decatur Female Seminary by the Decatur Presbyterian Church" in 1889. The name was changed in 1890 to honor the mother of Colonel George Scott who donated $40,000 to the school. - External Identifiers:
