- Description:
- Savannah, ca. 1900. View of part of Colonial Park located at Oglethorpe at Abercorn Street. It opened as a cemetery in 1750 and was closed to burials about 100 years later. Many important colonial figures are buried there. For many years the cemetery was not cared for and much damage was done to it. In 1896, it was taken over as a city park. Walks were laid out and the trees and flowers taken care of.
