- Description:
- Savannah, February 13, 1899. Monument to Sergeant William Jasper, who died in Siege of Savannah in 1779, located in Madison Square along Bull Street. The square was named for President James Madison. In background is DeSoto Hotel, which was built in the 1890s in the Romanesque style. In 1968, the hotel was demolished to make way for the DeSoto Hilton and the Citizens and Southern Bank complex. Note the unusual snow.
