- Description:
- "Mableton, ca. 1968. Third log cabin home of Abram Glore, built in 1841. Building now in disrepair.
By L. Harold Glore Great Grandson of Abram and Tabitha Glore.
Abram Glore was listed as Head of Household No. 235 of DeKalb County in the 1830 Census.
Shortly thereafter he came to Cobb County territory with the 19th District Surveyors, and built a log cabin adjacent to the Surveyor's stockade. The land lot on which his first Cobb County home was constructed was awarded to someone else in the Gold Land Lottery of 1832, and he had from the person to whom it had been awarded in the lottery. He took his time to build his third log cabin home, which he, his wife Tabitha, and the following ten children moved into in 1841: Mary Ann Glore born in 1824, George W. Glore born in 1826, Hannah Glore born in 1828, Elliott W. Glore born in 1829, Charlotte Jane Glore born in 1830, James Robert Glore born in 1832, Frances Ann Glore born in 1835, Amanda Glore born in 1837, and John T. Glore born in 1838. Abram Glore was listed as Head of Family No. 13 in Coxes District, Cobb County, in the 1840 Census.
The Glore family history in America has been traced back to Virginia, when in 1717 Michael Glore arrived on a ship from Holland with his son John Glore.
George W. Glore, a son of John Glore and grandson of Michael Glore, married Elizabeth Mauck on January 5, 1786, in Culpeper County, Virginia, the ceremony having been performed by minister Isham Tatum.
George W. and Elizabeth Mauck Glore, both born in Virginia, sold their 73 acre farm in Virginia, June 21, 1790.
George W. and Elizabeth Mauck Glore were living on a 50 acre farm located on Long Creek, in Wilkes County, Georgia, when on January 8, 1808, he made a deed of gift of this farm, his livestock, household and kitchen furniture to his children Abner, Anna, Abi, Abram, Asa, and Ala Glore.
Wilkes County, Georgia, was originally a much larger County than it is today.
Abram Glore was born in Wilkes County, Georgia, in 1798, and died in his log cabin home, located on Glore Road, in Mableton, Cobb County, Georgia, about half way between Floyd Road and Clay Road, in Coxes District, in 1871. "--from field notes - External Identifiers:
