Trustees of the school, the housed in the two story First Baptist Church of Mableton, are on the right side of the picture, left to right, T.K. Gresham, J.M. Gann, who later served as Ordinary of Cobb County for 24 years, and G.W. Glore.
J.J. Daniell, who succeeded Judge Gann as Ordinary of Cobb County, was then a student, and is pictured on the second row, from top, third from right end, wearing a clover -leaf tie. On his right, wearing a hat, is Dr. H.A. Glore, who served as the first Mayor of Mableton when the town was incorporated in 1912.
The Marietta Journal for September 20, 1894, reported that at least 2,000 people were present at commencement exercises of Mableton School.
Contest for medal in declaration: Zolli T. Gann, P.P Starnes, Gordon B. Gann, James J. Daniell, Homer Davis, P. Stephens, Frank Blair, J.S. Moss, Charlie Thomas, and Honor Glore. Zollie Gann won.
Contestants in elocution were Misses D. Lowe, Lizzie Lowe, Floy Ruff, Minnie Landers, Lou Floyd, Lora Gann, Amma Seay, and Lucy Thomas. D. Lowe won.
In those days school was help six months in winter and two months in summer, so students could help with planting crops in spring, and harvesting in fall."--from field notes - External Identifiers:
