- "Clarke County, 1915-1920. Puryear's Mill on Cedar Creek, ginning cotton and ground corn. Later kerosene engine added circa 1915 (left wing) for second gin. First gin was water-powered - little building upper right had stove in it so Puryear could keep warm while milling all night in winter. Wheel twenty-six feet in diameter five feet wide. Cast at Athens Foundry. Mill dismantled 1945. Wheel bought and cut down in still [ . . . ] by Charles Williams."--from field notes
