- Description:
- "Meriwether County, 2/3/34. Civilian Conservation Corps Camp Meriwether. This particular CCC Camp was to a degree a "showplace" in that it was located in Warm Springs, and President Roosevelt came to Warm Springs from time to time for treatment. The boys in the picture came from every walk of life, but they were all seniors about the work, and had quite a bit of pride in the camp. The Commissioned Officers assigned to our company said that it was one of the most interesting and challenging assignments that either of them had. Needless to say, they were will liked by the men. I was with the company for about 9 months before being transferred to supply company at Fort Screven for 6 more. Donated by Ben P. Axson (Peter Schinkel)."--from field notes
