- Ringgold, May 1934. Ethel Partin Stiles rubs a pattern on bedspread fabric. This is an early stage of the tufted bedspread process. She uses a wooden block covered with meat skins to rub the pattern onto the cloth. In the other hand is grease that she uses to set the pattern by rubbing it onto the cloth.
