- Description:
- Burke County, 1949. Interior of Bellevue Plantation showing the front living room. Bellevue is located south of Waynesboro and just west of U.S. Highway 25 and has been owned by members of the Carswell family since 1835. During the Civil War a rear guard action occurred here between Union and Confederate cavalry. Although the home still bears the marks of several mini balls, the home was not burned. There is a bullet hole above the fireplace above the diamond decoration.
