- Waynesboro, ca. 1900. William Archibald Wilkins (1835-1907) sitting in front of a desk on which an early type-writer has been placed. Wilkins was born in Midway in Liberty County. He attended the University of Georgia and Harvard University. In 1861 he settled in Louisville in Jefferson County and began practicing law. He served during the Civil War. He was among those who established the Bank of Waynesboro and served as its first president. Wilkins served as the mayor of Waynesboro for thirty years.
