- Description:
- Winder, 1950s. Aerial view of Fort Yargo State Park, which is located three miles southeast of Winder. Fort Yargo, the old log fort or blockhouse for which the park was named, was built in 1792. It was one of four forts built in the area by the Humphries brothers to protect early settlers from the Indians. In addition to the recreation opportunities, the park contains the Will-A-Way Recreation Area. This area has facilities, which were specially built, for the handicapped.
