- "Carl. Granite Store in Carl. Highway 29. Built in 1900 from stones quarried nearby. While the structure was being built, Penn Cain fell from the building scaffolding and was killed. It was built by Mr. Pit King. The building was used as a general store in the early 1900s. The rock building was built in the late 1890s or early 1900s."--from field notes
