- Winder, ca. 1900. Students in front of Winder Institute, located at the corner of Athens and Church Streets. On Feb. 15, 1894 Jug Tavern Institute was chartered as Winder Institute. It was a boarding school, which served three counties. Prior to 1907 the name was changed to Winder Public School, an independent system. In 1915 the structure was demolished to make way for a new building on the same site.
