- Barrow County, 1960s. Fort Yargo, the log fort or blockhouse for which Fort Yargo State Park was named, was built in 1792. It was one of the four forts built in the area by the Humphries brothers to protect early settlers from the Indians. The park opened in 1954 and is located three miles southeast of Winder.
