- Macon, early 1900s. William Franklin Edwards, holding the flag, was born February 2, 1844 in Oxford, Ga., and died March 21, 1926. During the Civil War he served in Co. F, 42d Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry. He later was made a sergeant and was flag bearer. Mary Edwards, his niece, and I.W. Edwards are the others seen in the photograph. He is buried at Harminy Baptist Church Cemetery in Newton County, GA. He was married to Mary Jane (Molly) Gory or Goyee.
