- Macon, ca. 1890-1900. Volunteers Armory, located at First and Poplar Streets, was built ca. 1884. Its architecture is Victorian. Note the Gothic tower. Busts of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson are over entrance. Macon Volunteers oldest military unit in city. It began in 1825 and in 1940 it became part of Ga. National Guard.
