- Description:
- Bibb County, ca. 1870s. Blockhouse at Fort Hawkins. This was a U.S. fort built on 100 acres on the Ocmulgee Fields. It was built in 1806. It became important as a repository for supplies and as a trading center for the Creek Indians. Indian Agent, Benjamin Hawkins, selected the site.
