- Description:
- Milledgeville, ca. 1930s-1940s. Former state capitol building located on Jefferson Street was designed by smart and Lane. Construction on it began in 1805, and the legislature met there from 1807-1868. Additions were made throughout the years to this Gothic structure. In 1871 it was used as the Baldwin County Courthouse until it was acquired by Georgia Military College in 1880. In 1941 it was destroyed by fire and was rebuilt.
