Two-story stuccoed brick house with raised basement on a foundation of brick with a tin and copper roof, featuring a two-story portico with massive entablature supported by six fluted heroic Doric columns. A small balcony hangs over the doorway. The interior staircase has mahogany railings and balusters, and its risers are enameled to look like white veined marble. Doors are of solid walnut. Judge Daniel R. Tucker from South Carolina built the house around 1839. George Wiggin Hollinghead bought the house in 1886. The house was purchased in 1928 by Mr. and Mrs. Reginald W. Hatcher, who restored the house and named it Lockerly after their ancestral home in England. Edward J. Grassman planted extensive gardens which became the Lockerly Foundation Arboretum. For more information see Linley, John. Architecture of Middle Georgia: the Oconee Area. Athens, Ga.: University of Georgia Press, c1972, pp. 79-80.
