Built with slave labor circa 1853, Glen Mary was named for Mary Gonder, wife of builder and planter Theophilus Jackson Smith. The 50 foot square structure has first floor walls made of plaster covered fieldstone. There are four interior chimneys. Two porches grace the front of the house. The upper porch and its Corinthian columns are supported by six square brick and stucco pillars. In 1961, Anita Nicholls began restoration of the house.
