Rear view of a one-story wood frame house on a concrete block foundation with a half finished attic and a half finished basement. The house is covered in both cedar shake siding and masonite siding and the hipped roof is shingled. A distinctive feature is the overhanging roof extension at the rear of the house, which blocks the sun and provides deep shelter for sitting outside, even in rain. John Linley bought the property at 530 Pulanski in 1967 and re-worked it to create the house that we see today. The house features a front yard garden, enclosed by a concrete block wall, which creates privacy and green space along the street. This garden uses the floor plan of the original wood front porch and dirt front yard that existed before 1967. The one-acre garden encircling the house contributes to its success as a structure deeply rooted to its landscape. Purely for the enjoyment of neighbors and passersby, Linley created streetspace gardening in the public right-of-way that includes a rock garden, two stone benches and trees along the length of the entire block. A steep drop-off in the rear reveals the finished portion of the basement in addition to the first level and attic gable. The original house featured a pediment with a triangular ventilator.
