Demosthenian Hall, constructed in 1824, was the meeting place of the Demosthenian Literary Society (organized in 1803). The traditional Federal style, rectangular structure has a three-bay front and sides. Its roof is hipped with flared eaves. The stoop is stone. The first-floor plan has been greatly altered over the years. Built in 1832, the building has a temple form with a modified Greek hexastyle portico. The columns of the portico are fluted, and there are corner pilasters. Originally, a square tower was located over the vestibule, but a scaffold type bell tower replaced it prior to 1935.
