- Located at: Between Hartwell and Strom Thurmond Dams, 18 miles southeast of Elberton, GA, and 4 miles southwest of Calhoun Falls, SC.
Richard B. Russell Dam and Lake was built on the Savannah River by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District in 1976. The project had been authorized in 1966 for the purpose of hydropower generation, recreation, and flood control.
