Two-story building of stone with attic, featuring forward facing gables serving as dormers. Completed in 1925, Recitation Hall was designed as part of the Ford Complex by Harry Carlson of Boston. It contains a large living room and houses offices, classrooms, and laboratories for the music department, education, and family and consumer sciences. Earlier, the living room was a branch of the college library for the high school girls when The Martha Berry School for Girls was in operation. Later it was used by college women as study space. A stained glass window at the far end, made by Charles J. Connich of Boston, depicts characters from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. The hall has entrances from the Archway and Auditorium. In 1977, the hall was renovated for use by the music program. Air conditioning was added to the first floor in 1995. For more information see Dickey, Ouida W., ed.
