Two-story wood frame house featuring a two-story portico with pediment supported by four square Doric-inspired columns. The porch and balcony over the entrance are enclosed by a decorative iron railing. Balcony and entrance doors are framed by sidelights and transom. The pediment features a semicircular ventilator. The Female Academy was established at Old Mercer College in 1838. The Academy became a town school after 1855. For more information see Rice, Thaddeus Brockett.
