Two-story wood frame house featuring a two-story portico supported by four square Doric inspired columns. When the stage coach ran from Richmond, Charleston, and Augusta on its way to New Orleans, it passed through Madison directly by this house. Atlanta restoration advisor Thomas Little asserts that part of the house was built before 1809, based on detailing in the front hall and twelve inch "plank walls" in the living room. After stage coach business dwindled with the arrival of the railroad by 1840, the inn was used as a boarding house for teachers and students of Madison's private academies and two girls' colleges.
