- Description:
- Located at: Greenville-Gay Road, Meriwether County, Ga., near Jones Mill
Two-story wood frame plantation house featuring a portico with entablature supported by square Doric inspired columns. Decorative S-shaped brackets support the cornice. The balcony above the entrance is enclosed by a simple balustrade. The entrance features sidelights and transom. Allen J. Jones bought this land from John H. Jones in 1832. Ownership seems to have been in the Jones family for over a century. Related names are Grant Jones, Irma Reid Bowen and her husband H. H. Brandenberg; Minnie (Mrs. Henry) Leverett, and Emmie Cliatt Smith. The house was sold in 1946 to Webster J. Bassett, and in 1973 to Lee Nash, Sr. For more information see Pinkston, Regina P. A Historical Account of Meriwether County, 1827-1974. Greenville, Ga.: Gresham Printing Co., c1974, p. 86.
