The two-story frame house with clapboarding was built during the early 19th century. It is L-shaped and has a first-floor addition on one side as well as two small second-story additions. There is a three-bay one-story entrance porch with columns and turned banisters. The rear porch has fluted Doric columns. Enlarged ca. 1840 by Georgia Governor Thomas Gilmer. Slide annotated: "1820-30 Federal Doorway and Mantels." Built in 1845, the two-storied Greek Revival home is frame with clapboarding and has a hipped roof. The porch is two-stories high and on three sides of the structure. The house features fluted Greek Doric columns. The outbuildings, a kitchen, storage house, and well house, are not visible. The structure was restored in 1977 by the Athens Junior Assembly and the city of Athens. For more information, see Linley, John.
