- Located at: Pope Street, Athens, Ga.
Two-story wood frame house with the entrance to one side, featuring a two-story portico with entablature and pediment supported by four fluted heroic Doric columns. A square ventilator is centered in the pediment. The entrance features sidelights and transom of square panes. Similar to Pomegranate Hall in Sparta, this is an example of a "half-house." Such houses were built throughout the country during the second quarter of the nineteenth century. Many were built with the idea that balancing rooms would be added later, so that the entrance would eventually be centered. Others were deliberately designed to have the hall and entrance to one side. For more information see Linley, John. Architecture of Middle Georgia: the Oconee Area. Athens, Ga.: University of Georgia Press, c1972, pp. 80-81.
