View of the spire. The Eatonton Methodist church bought the 80' by 100' lot for the Greek Revival church for $500 in 1857 from James Supple. The steepled church was built for about $7600 by James M. Broadfield and Tunis Tunison. Extensive renovations around 1900 included the replacement of the original Ionic columns with Corinthian columns and the installation of Italian stained glass windows, including the huge stained glass rosette window facing the street. An arson fire in 1979 ravaged the interior of the church, destroying all the stained glass windows but the ones facing the street. Fortunately, the original pews only suffered surface damage and photographs of the destroyed windows were used to make copies of most of the originals. During restoration, seating capacity was increased and the church was rededicated November 29, 1981.
