Text of marker: "OLD ZION HERITAGE MUSEUM. Zion Baptist Church was organized in 1866 by 88 former slaves who left First Baptist Church. The first worship place was a brush arbor. Next a small wooden structure was built which was destroyed by fire. In 1888, the present structure was built. Original early 20th century pews are still used. Placed on National Register of Historic Places in 1990. Restored in 1997. Museum established in 2003." - External Identifiers:
