Text of marker: "KILLED ON THIS SPOT MAY 10, 1865. JOHN RUPERT, COMPANY C, 4TH MICHIGAN CAVALRY, FEDERAL ARMY. DRAFTED AT AGE OF 21 AT RICHMOND, MACOMB COUNTY, MICHIGAN. BURIED AT ABBEYVILLE, GEORGIA, REMAINS REMOVED TO NATIONAL CEMETERY, ANDERSONVILLE, GEORGIA, GRAVE NO. 13,697.
